Are you interested in wine and local culture?
Then this is for you.
A highly recommended wine experience that goes far beyond the regular tour. Not fancy, not pretentious—just genuine passion, warmth, and really good wine.
Recently, Spain Simplified joined White Houses Tours on a wine adventure through one of the Costa del Sol’s most authentic hidden gems: Bodega Malvajío. And what an experience it was!
A small bodega with a big dream
Bodega Malvajío is a small, artisanal winery located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, in the municipality of Mijas.
Its story begins with a dream: Antonio Mérida’s desire to revive local oenology and viticulture, producing wines right here in Mijas—something many believed was impossible.
In 2011, Malvajío released its first wine, giving its name to the winery and marking the start of a project rooted in authenticity, tradition, and deep respect for the land. Their philosophy is clear:
maximum respect for the environment, minimal intervention, and wines created with heart.
They call it “Vino de Garaje”, or “Boutique Wine”—small-batch wines made in tiny spaces, prioritising quality over quantity, craftsmanship over industry.ble.
Today, Malvajío tends to a small vineyard in Mijas and another 10 hectares in Mollina, producing around 20,000 bottles per year. Their wines are 100% ecological, from vineyard to winemaking to bottling, and some have already won international awards.
A tour unlike anything else on the Costa del Sol
